Snehana means oleation therapy using snigdha draVyas which makes the vitiated Doshas easily extractable. As a matter of fact Snehana is a property of Jala Mahabhoota. Therefore the body becomes oily and smooth due to Snehana. After the examination of the patient, we decide the Snehana Dravya for the patient. However the average duration of Snehana should be between 3 to 7 days depending upon the need.
Then comes the role of dosage of that Sneha Dravya which depends on the time required for digestion of the Sneha taken (related to Agni Bala of the patient). In this period certain dietary restrictions as a per-requisite for Snehapana. Snehapana should be given early in the morning within 15-30 minutes after sunrise. To avoid the taste, sight and smell the patient may be asked to take the Snehapana with closed eyes and nose.
