Acne is a commonly found and a long term condition characterized by Seborrhea (increased oil-sebum secretion). According to Ayurveda it is a type of Kshudra Roga. It is the disease when it is seen in adolescence. Generally it is a Kapha - Pitta related disease and has a chronic history.
Pityriasis (Scaling of Skin)
It is a skin rash and mostly occurring in children and usually seen as dry, fine scaled, pale patches on the face. Classically it starts with a single patch and in 1-2 weeks by a generalized body rash lasting upto 10-12 weeks.
Dandruff is the same complaint from scalp , which can also be accompanied by redness and irritation. It often causes itching and may fluctuate with season as it often worsens in winter. According to Ayurveda it is a vata dominant skin condition affecting different regions of the body.
It is a contagious skin infection caused by a mite parasite which in most people causes a severe itching sensation caused by a allergic response. The disease may be transmitted from objects, but mostly by a direct skin to skin contact. According to Ayurveda, it is a type of Kushtha and having Kapha dominance with Pitta as a anubandha dosha.
It is a ringworm/Tinea infection of the scalp with the presentation of patches, hairloss, accompanied by inflammation. It usually seen in pre-pubertal children, more often boys than girls. It is also seen in groin region, thigh skin folds or anus and causes itching, burning sensation. According to Ayurveda, it is a Kapha dushti with Rakta dushti, reduction in immunity.
Is a disorder associated with abnormal liver function, its common sites are wrist, lower back and genitalia. It’s involvement of scalp leads to hair loss and commonly affect the buccal mucosa. In Ayurved perspective it has got Kapha-Vata dushti and needs Panchakarma specifically.
It is common pattern with itchy or burning edematous swelling and occurs anywhere in body and associated with diffuse swelling of lips, face & throat, rarely with abdominal pain, head aches & even anaphylactic shock. According to Ayurveda it is Sheet pitta with Kapha dominance.
This is the condition where dry or greasy peeling of scalp, eyebrows, face and sometimes trunk is involved. It is closely related with dandruff and closely related with drug reactions and psychological factors. According to Ayurveda it is Kapha dominant condition and due to which has a chronic course.
It is a non infectious inflammatory disease of the skin with unknown aetiology. But genetic, biochemical, stress & drugs are the pre-dominant factors behind this. In Psoriasis, scalp, palms, soles, nails and sometimes whole skin gets involved. Its complication is Psoriatic arthropathy. According to Ayurveda, it’s a Vata –Kapha samsarga of Kushtha disease which has Pitta association also.
In this condition, the area of skin have been lost, healing occurs with scarring. According to Ayurveda, they are vranas have got deep seated Kleda.
Cholasma (Butterfly Pigmentation of Face)
This is the hyper pigmentation of facial skin with localized discoloration. It is usually found on either side of Nose that occurs most often in women. It is commonly influenced by hormonal changes. Hence found during puberty, pregnancy, in people with HRT, after Hysterctomy, during Menopause and oral contraceptive pills. It is trigerred by Sun exposure.
According to Ayurveda it is a Pitta influence disorder and can be correlated to Vyanga & due to vitiation of Vata & Pitta.
They are the small brown spots arising on face & other sun exposed areas. They are influenced by genetic factors, resulting in painless, thin, black/brown patches.
Dark & under eye circles are very common beauty complaint & due to lack of sleep, allergies, sun exposure, fluid retention, unhealthy diet, mental & physical stress, lack of nutrients, pregnancy, menstruation and ageing, which thins the skin under the eyes. Sometimes pigmentation also causes dark circles. Heredity can also play a role.
According to Ayurveda, dark circles are caused due to vitiation in the vata and the pitta doshas. It has been found that Yoga, Pranayama & Ayurvedic internal medicines are very beneficial in reducing dark circles.
Dry skin occurs due to loss of skin moisture & usually occurs during cold weather. For some, dry skin is a chronic problem & if ignored, fissures or deep cracks can develop on the skin which may cause bleeding.
